History of youth organisations and their activities on territory of former Czechoslovak republic is rich. In 23rd April 1945 on combining congress youth united into Czechoslovak union of youth and in November 1970 was reposed the Socialist Union of Youth.

Its main tasks were:

1) take the part with democratic strength in companies and in the world

2) battle against imperialism

3) fight for democracy, public sovereignty and social development

4) fight for political, social, economic laws and interests of junior generation

For year 1989, after events in November, everybody disavowed from everything, that had something unit with socialism. Many people rejected positives and achievements those we can today only dream about. After fall of socialist system in Czechoslovakia, the Socialist Union of Youth is gradually smashing and after its expiration arise a lot of youth organisations that were interconnected straight on new political parties. In year 1993 Czech and Slovak federative republic divided into two independent republics. It was the end of the Socialist Union of Youth, that wasn’t registered in Slovak republic.

Although modern SZM is young organisation, it has deep roots and traditions that knot on activity of youth organisations that I remember. The one of the first genesis was the meeting of left-wing youth of whole Slovakia in Trenčín in 12^th April 1997, where reparatory committee is hearing several applications, which conduced arrangements, that founder congress of new youth organisation put into practice. It happened in 31^st May in 1997 in Banská Bystrica.

Modern Socialist Union of Youth is independent, voluntary, left-wing, youth organisation, which has its tasks: evolve educational, working and social activities and support the lead of young people in all zone of social life. It aspires after union of young people into social movement and after protect of their laws. It stays against the fascism and capitalism.

After its institution its membership get up and attend several meetings and demonstrations that they protest against lay-off, against aggressive policy of NATO, against conversion of health service and educational system.

From concrete and most important activities we can mention interest of Socialist Union of Youth on world festival of young people and of students in Cuba and in Venezuela, together-sharing on organisation of ultimate named festival in Portugal, interest on international camp of friendship in Serbian Sirogojno, where SZM is telling the solidarity to Serbian nation after aggression of forces of NATO or the working visit of Kosovo in camp of fugitives. In last year SZM took working appointments in Portugal (Tavira), in Czech Republic (Brno), in Russia (Petersburg, Moscow) and in Austria (Vienna), where it isn’t missing on demonstration against of EU-US summit.

SZM, that it hold and confirm bond in left-wing of youth in Slovakia, insists on organisation to make its own activities. For example: the Festival of youth and students, March of peace, Camp of youth, show on Day of casualties in Dukla and Seminaries of left-wing youth in Banská Bystrica.

SZM is interesting for active attitudes to current events in the world. It presents to its medias and makes public on its Internet address. Now it’s founding the magazine of left-wing youth named Resistance, through whose it wants to present the message of peace and social justice and spread into wide layers of youth.

We want that people stop to sense the war, hunger and suffering as something natural. It’s necessary to start to advocacy of human rights and laws without any differences of nationality, religions, flesh-colour or social position. A lot of people think that the wars, suffering and hunger are component of our daily life that we can’t change. They don’t try to remove the weapons, help suffering and feed hungry, because they are sure that is impossible. We know, that it is possible. And we persuade everybody, if you are such fiery for this thing.
